Metabolic syndrome, the cluster of abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, abnormal blood lipids and chronic inflammation, sharply increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, still the leading cause of death worldwide. The new volume brings together researchers from several countries to examine how these metabolic conditions reshape the heart and blood vessels, and where new treatments might intervene.
